When a student isn't ready for coaching
Not all students are ready for coaching, and pretending otherwise burns coaches out. Name the kind of 'not ready,' then have the conversation.
§Identify the type: overwhelmed, resistant, parent-driven, ashamed, avoidant, or mismatched with the coach.
§Do not assume resistance means the student does not care.
§Reset expectations with the student and parents when needed.
A coach you support has had eight sessions with a sophomore who agreed to coaching to 'get his mom off his back.' He shows up, says 'fine,' and completes nothing between sessions. The coach blames herself.
Which of your coaches is sitting with a 'not ready' student and quietly blaming themselves?

Name the type before you name the move.
- 1Run the Next Move tool on one struggling student per coach.
- 2Schedule one expectation-reset conversation with a parent or student you've been postponing.
A coach can name what kind of 'not ready' their student is, and stops blaming themselves.
